Who We Are
The SRDP – Rural Development Program is an education-focused initiative implemented by Kaveri Vanitha Sevashrama (KVS), a women-led nonprofit organization committed to creating equitable learning opportunities for underprivileged children in rural India.
Rooted in grassroots experience and community engagement, the team behind SRDP brings together trained educators, program managers, and school partners who share a common goal: to ensure that rural students are not left behind due to language barriers, limited exposure, or lack of resources.
By working closely with government and government-aided schools, SRDP functions as a bridge between formal education systems and the real-world skills students need to succeed in higher education and beyond.
Our Journey
The SRDP – Rural Development Program began over eight years ago with a clear purpose: to bridge the gap between rural education and urban opportunities by empowering students with spoken English, life skills, and confidence. Launched in government and government-aided schools around Shreyas Retreat in Bangalore Rural District, SRDP was created in response to the challenges faced by Kannada-medium students who had limited exposure to English and experiential learning despite strong academic potential. Starting on a modest scale, the program grew steadily through close collaboration with schools, refining interactive teaching methods such as role-plays, discussions, and contextual learning that encouraged students to express themselves without fear. Over time, SRDP evolved into a structured, school-integrated initiative supported by trained educators, continuous assessments, and teacher capacity-building, ensuring both quality and sustainability. Even through disruptions like the COVID-19 period, the program remained resilient and returned with renewed focus. Today, SRDP reaches over 1,600 students annually, nurturing confidence, communication, and aspiration, and continues to transform rural classrooms into spaces of possibility—preparing students not just for exams, but for life beyond the classroom.
The SRDP team is a committed group of trained educators, program coordinators, and support staff who work collaboratively to deliver meaningful learning experiences in rural schools. The team includes full-time English and life skills trainers who conduct interactive, student-centered sessions, supported by a Project Manager who oversee planning, school coordination, monitoring, and quality assurance. Regular training and capacity-building programs ensure that the team stays aligned with best teaching practices and program goals. Working closely with school headmasters and teachers, the SRDP team brings dedication, cultural sensitivity, and a shared belief in the potential of every rural student—ensuring the program is implemented effectively and sustainably.
